eBook Survey and Free Starbucks

As you may have heard me mention before this year I have been inspired to write my very first eBook for mothers. With much help, love, patients and assistance from my family – I have thankfully been able to start and get a good amount of the book completed. I have been getting most of my writing done during  my much needed Mommy Time at Starbucks the past few weeks.

Well I have reached a point in the book that I now need your help. It would mean so much if each of you could take the next five to ten minutes to help me complete this book by filling out the survey I have prepared. This survey touches on topics that are discussed heavily in my book.

Find Parenting Survey Here

This project can not be completed with your help and to show my appreciation all who complete the full survey and leave a comment on this blog post will be entered to win a fifty dollar ($50.00) gift certificate to Starbucks. Yoplait Less Sugar (Contest)

Yoplait Kids Less Sugar Gift Photo

Are you searching for a snack for the kids that tastes good and is good for them? Yoplait Kids yogurt is the perfect solution with 25% less sugar than the leading kids´ yogurt. With its thick and creamy texture that will hug your little one´s spoon, you won´t have to worry about a sticky mess to clean up afterwards. It also contains no artificial sweeteners or flavors, so you can feel good about serving it to your kids.

As a part of MyBlogSpark and their partnership with Yoplait, I was provided with a pack of goods from Yoplait Kids. This fun prize pack included a coupon for a Yoplait Kids yogurt, a travel cooler (to take your yogurt on-the-go), a fun spoon that changes colors in warm water, a reusable place mat with games to keep the kids happy while snacking, and a fuzzy tangle puzzle for some after-snack fun.

Now my son is stll too young to enjoy yogurt so I had the opportunity to share my yogurt gift with a friend of mine @modernmami. Her daughter just happen to enjoy eating yogurt so it was a win win situation for us. After eating and enjoying the yogurt she very appropriately shared her 3 year old professional opinion. She liked the Dora & Diego choices. Fun, and she knows the characters very well. As for the yogurt itself she felt the texture was a little thick. She already eats and enjoys the adult yogurt which tends to be thinner. So eventually mom was asked to mix it up a little to make it a little thinner. Mom also noticed that the time it took to finish the container was significantly longer then when she eats the adult yogurt which could very well mean that she didn’t enjoy it as much. But she did eat all six yogurts eventually (of course not in one day) so that is a good sign.

If you haven’t had to opportunity share some fun yogurt with your children here is your chance. MyBlogSpark will send a Yoplait Kids package to one lucky winner. All you have to do is share one way that you make snack time fun for your kids and what is one of their favorite memories you have during snack time.

For extra entries you can also

  • Tweet about this contest and then leave another comment with a link to your tweet.
  • Discus this contest on your own blog, providing a link back to this page. Then come back and leave another comment with a link to your blog post.

Yoplait's – YoPlus Get Healthy Gift Pack

A few weeks back I mentioned that I am participating in the Yoplait®pink lid challenge for breast cancer awareness. Since then I have grown to really enjoy eating yogurt … I never used to like it as a kid. Well lucky for me, others like yogurt also and want to know what people like me think of it. MyBlogSpark offered its members a chance to try some of the new YoPlus Digestive yogurt and to share with our readers what we thought.

When juggling a hectic schedule of everyday life, it may be difficult to find the time for foods that will help keep you feeling on track. But, that doesn’t have to be the case anymore with the help of YoPlus Light yogurt, a quick, healthy snack that also helps regulate your digestive system without compromising calorie intake or taste!

I was at first affraid that  it would have some weird taste to it but was surprised because it didn’t taste any different then their regular brand. The package they sent provided for 8 total yogurts. I had 4 and let my family members try the rest. We all really enjoyed it. I don’t think I had enough to really see the digestive benefits yet but I did feel quite lighter and refreshed after each.

With the help my MyBlogSpark I would like to provide you with the chance to try out YoPlus yourself. Along with receiving two free coupons for any flavor of the new YoPlus Light yogurt you will also receive the following items pictured below: a stylish sports bag, sports towel, and ear buds. (*Please note: These free coupons are not valid in Louisiana, Nevada and North Dakota.)

What Scent Are You?

I love being a part of TwitterMoms.com because they always have the cutest and most unique blog post ideas. This month members are given a chance to win a bottle of Downy Orchid Allure by posting a blog entry answering the question “If you could define yourself with a scent, what scent would represent you and why?”

Well I thought for some time and couldn’t think of anything unique and special so I did the next best thing and asked my husband … he is so sweet. Here is what he said about me.

“If you had a smell it would be vanilla, because it is subtle but it noticeably freshens where ever it is” – Chris

Really??? Isn’t that precious. Now I am going to go out to Bath and Body Works to get vanilla scented body spray.

So what do you think your smell would be and why? Share your thoughts with me, or enter the contest yourself at http://www.twittermoms.com/forum/topics/if-you-could-define-yourself. If you do enter the contest, come back here and share your blog link. Would love to hear what others smell like also.

Book Review: The BlackBerry Diaries

I recently contacted a representative with Weber Shandwick public relations regarding a chance to read and review Kathy Buckworth’s latest book, ‘The BlackBerry Diaries: Adventures in Modern Motherhood.’  It’s a year-long blog account of her life with her BlackBerry, and how, as a mother of four, her two worlds — technology and children — collide.

Within days of reaching out I heard back from Weber Shandwick and they sent me a free copy of the book to read at my leisure and provide an honest review. So here I am, I have just finished the book and now I am ready to share my thoughts.

I certainly did enjoy reading the book from beginning to end. It is a light hearted, fun and upbeat book with loads of laughs. My favorite feature of the book is the flow. It reads very similar to a blog. Kathy actually refers to the book as a plog given that blog is short for web-log and this book is on paper. She even captures more of a blog like essences by including tags at the end of each entry.

Now I myself am not a BBSP (BlackBerry Smart Phone) owner, but I do have a smart phone that I have with me everywhere. I can certainly relate to the ease,  convenience and importance of my phone and its constant proximity to me. However, I don’t believe my attachment level has grown to the heights expressed in the book. But then again I only have one child and my husband is actually pretty supportive and helpful around the home so maybe one day when more kids arrive and stress levels rise I will be more in tune with my BlackBerry side.

I highly recommend this book to all the modern mothers out there. If not just for the pure entertainment, then for some ideas and tricks on how to better utilize your own BBSP in times of need.

Want a chance to read the BlackBerry Diaries for yourselves?  There are 2 ways to enter the contest for a chance to win the book for free.

  1. Leave a comment here telling me what piece of modern technology do you use to help cope through those long boring business meetings, children’s recitals or PTA meetings?
  2. Post a tweet mentioning the contest and book. Then post another comment with the link to your tweet.

Contest will end on Friday, September 25th and a winner chosen on Saturday, September 26th. The winner will be chosen using Random.org and will be notified via email. (Please be sure to provide a valid email address with your comment.)

If you would like to purchase your own copy check out the book on amazon.com.

This mission means a lot  to me and my family right now. My cousin who is only 28 recently underwent surgery to have all of her reproductive organs removed due to cancer. It was a hard and trying experience for her and her husband. I continue to pray for her physical and emotional recovery.

Book Review: Living the Truth (Contest)

510RZ0HkWmL__SL500_AA240_I was recently given a copy of a very interesting and thought provoking book titled Living the Truth: Transform Your Life Through the Power of Insight and Honesty by the highly credited Keith Ablow, MD. Ablow is a New York Times bestselling author, Fox News Psychiatry Contributor, contributing editor for Good Housekeeping and Men’s Fitness, and repeat Oprah guest. He has earned the title, “America’s Psychiatrist” by helping millions of people take control of their lives by understanding the patterns they’ve developed that are firmly rooted in the past. Dr. Keith Ablow began his media career as a reporter for Newsweek and a freelancer for the Washington Post and Baltimore Sun and soon moved on to being a medical editor and producer for Lifetime Medical Television in New York and Los Angeles. He was the Host and Executive Producer of the Dr. Keith Ablow Show and has appeared on such shows as The Oprah Winfrey Show, The Today Show, Good Morning America, FOX’s The O’Reilly Factor and CNN’s Larry King Live. Oh and he’s also a doctor of psychiatry but who’s counting.

I was intrigued when given the book by its cover and title and though, ‘hey this would be some interesting reading’ but discovered quickly this isn’t your everyday book to just pick up and browse through. Ablow sends you on a journey into your past that will ultimately lead you into discovering details and incidents from your history that have some significant impact on your life and how you are living today. He helps you on this journey by providing insight, knowledge and facts along with real living examples and a unique interactive section in every chapter. After providing the insight he then brings it back to you to be honest with yourself as he presents several questions to help you dig into your past and your feelings.

Admittedly, I found it very difficult at first to really engage in the total aspect of the book because I didn’t pick it up and start reading with the intentions of transforming my life, I was simply reading it to share my opinion about it in the end. This book is really geared towards people who have recognized that they have a problem and are will and able to do some self discovery in order to be healed. I wasn’t there. However, about half way through I did start to really think about my life, where I am, my habits and issues and started to really consider their roots. In an effort to not divulge too much of the books content I will restrain from saying everything, but once you get into the book you will see a distinct connection between the person you are today and the events of your past, particularly those involving close family members (parents, siblings, etc.) You would be amazed at just how much your family has really shaped your life, from big ways to small little habits.

It was after discovering the connection between our parents and our current condition that I became extremely TERRIFIED!!!

Not so much for myself, over the past few years and even more today after reading this book, I feel I have a good grasp on my issues and have been able to be ‘freed’ from their possible destructive behaviors. However, I fear that it is inevitable that either my husband or myself will do something that will a lasting effect our child forever. It could be something as small as always being 10 minutes late in picking him up from practice, and that could lead him to never trusting anyone to be on time for him and constantly worry if he would be forgotten.

Ablow does admit that majority of the time the parents and family members really do not intend to cause harm with their actions and are not to blame … well kind of. They aren’t to blame because of the cycle. Your grandparents have done something to your parents that they never got over so now the destructive behavior is in them and they unknowing project it unto you. Which still kind of puts it back on the parent, just without the finger pointing.

Would I recommend this book: Yes I would especially to any one who is currently or knows some one who suffers from any of the following (overeating, overspending, obsession over a romantic relationship, constantly arguing with family, obsession over dieting, sexual indiscretions or addiction, perfectionism, staying online for hours, addiction to pornography, gambling, cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs.) This can be a great resourse to getting to the root of the problem and not a bandaid to make it feel better.

I would like to take this chance to offer this book to you. Especially if you feel you or a family member could benefit from its words of wisdom. There are 2 ways to enter the contest for a chance to win the book for free.

  1. Leave a comment here telling me if you have heard of the author, read one of his books, or just really interested in his interpretation of your life.
  2. Post a tweet mentioning the contest and book. Then post another comment with the link to your tweet.

Contest will end on Friday, August 28th and a winner chosen on Saturday, August 29th. The winner will be chosen using Random.org and will be notified via email. (Please be sure to provide a valid email address with your comment.)
